Professor Paul Grossman

Paul Grossman, PhD is Research Director Emeritus, Department of Psychosomatic Medicine, Division of Internal Medicine at the University Hospital, Basel, Switzerland. 


Over the past three decades, he has investigated and published on relations between psychological function and cardio-respiratory physiology, as well as on the adoption of mindfulness and other elements of Buddhist psychology in the health-and-illness related sciences. As principal investigator of several clinical trials of mindfulness-based interventions for debilitating, long-lasting medical conditions (including multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia and sequelae of bone marrow transplantation), he has lectured and authored papers on conceptual and interventional aspects of mindfulness in healthcare and psychology. 

Paul is also founder and director of the European Center for Mindfulness, Freiburg, Germany. Additionally Paul is a member of the Executive Advisory Committee of Mind & Life Institute Europe and Faculty of the Mind & Life European Summer Research Institute, as well as Associate Editor of the journal Mindfulness, and co-director of MBSR-Freiburg, a mindfulness-based stress-reduction teacher-training program in Freiburg, Germany.
