Lila O'Farrell

BA (Psych), MA (Couns. Psych), MDiv (IfTS), Cert. (Clin. Supervision), MNZAC.
Lila has nourished the integration of meditation practice, study and right livelihood for thirty years. She is an experienced mindfulness educator, clinical supervisor, and therapist with Mindful Life Consulting, and within Awhi Atu, Awhi Mai, the mental health and wellness support service of Nirvana Health Group, Auckland’s largest private primary health care provider.

In 2003 Lila attended a 7 day training for health care professionals in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) with Jon Kabat Zinn and Saki Santorelli. Since then, she has taught MBSR in primary health care, private, and organizational settings.

Lila is a leader in delivering a Mindfulness Based Programme (MBP) to hundreds of Aucklanders in the primary health care setting. With a special interest in interventions that are meaningful for indigenous and multicultural populations, Lila developed Mindfulness and Awareness Aotearoa (M&AA) – an MBP that is transdiagnostic, trauma-informed and enriched with guidance and wisdom from Te Ao Māori. Lila trains and supervises others in teaching M&AA. A workplace version is offered to medical staff, cultivating resilience, compassion, and referral confidence.

Lila is a registered teacher with MTI and available to supervise people on the MTI pathway, face-to-face and online. She is committed to evidence informed, integrative and culturally safe practice.

Registered teachers have taught at least three rounds of the program and have completed basic requirements of the Level I and Level II MTI training pathway, but are not yet certified.

Certified teachers are given certification when they have taught many rounds of the course, attended several silent retreats and their teaching has been rigorously assessed using video/audio submissions.
